The rule of individual subject cutoff is also applicable in JEE Advanced. For this, the candidate will have to come out of the mindset of JEE Main. In this, if the student gets less marks than the individual subject cutoff in any one of the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Then he will be declared failed. Only after clearing the individual subject cutoff, the success or failure of the candidate will be decided on the basis of aggregate cutoff and the final result is declared. This time in JEE Advanced 2024, there will be 11 contenders for one seat in IIT, and around 60 thousand students have not even applied.

Gurukripa JEE expert said that according to this rule, the candidate should have more than 10 percent marks in each subject of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, while all the three subjects taken together should have more than 35 percent marks. The subject percentage wise cut off is 10% marks and overall cutoff is 35% for general category candidates. The cutoff for EWS and OBC is 9 and 31.5 percent, while the cutoff for SC, ST and PWD candidates is only 5 and 17.5 percent. 1.6 lakh students had registered for JEE Advanced exam in the year 2022. While 1.89 lakh students had registered in 2023 and 1.91 lakh students have registered this year in 2024, the top 2.5 lakh students of JEE Main had qualified for Advanced. The number of candidates appearing in JEE Main has been between 10 to 14 lakh.
